How long after rhinoplasty can one consume alcohol?
I had rhinoplasty surgery two weeks ago, and I really enjoy social gatherings with my friends. Now, I would like to know how soon after rhinoplasty surgery I can start drinking alcohol.
You should wait 2–3 months after rhinoplasty before drinking alcohol.
Rhinoplasty is a common cosmetic procedure used to improve the appearance of the nose. After surgery, the body needs time to heal, including reducing swelling and pain, and allowing the new nasal shape to stabilize. Alcohol consumption may interfere with the healing process, as it can disrupt the body's natural healing mechanisms and increase the risk of bleeding. Additionally, alcohol causes blood vessels to dilate, which may lead to increased swelling.
Generally, you should wait until the surgical site has mostly healed before consuming alcohol. The exact timeframe varies depending on individual differences, the type of rhinoplasty performed, and personal recovery progress. For non-surgical rhinoplasty, such as hyaluronic acid injections, which involve relatively minor trauma and faster recovery, it is typically recommended to avoid alcohol for at least 2 months. For surgical methods involving incisions, such as implant-based or autologous cartilage rhinoplasty, which involve greater trauma and longer recovery times, it is advisable to avoid alcohol for at least 3 months.
During the recovery period, in addition to avoiding alcohol, patients should keep the surgical site clean and dry to prevent infection. It is also important to follow the surgeon’s instructions and attend regular follow-up appointments to ensure stable and long-lasting surgical results.
