Does vaginal discharge increase during early pregnancy?
I just became pregnant recently, and I've noticed that my vaginal discharge seems to have increased. I'm a bit worried—is this normal? Does vaginal discharge typically increase during early pregnancy, or could there be something wrong with my body?
Leukorrhea may increase during early pregnancy. If it is colorless and odorless, this is generally a normal phenomenon.
During early pregnancy, hormone levels in a woman's body undergo significant changes, especially an increase in estrogen and progesterone, which can lead to increased blood flow to the cervix and vagina, resulting in increased secretions. Therefore, increased leukorrhea during early pregnancy is a normal physiological response typically presenting as colorless or milky white, odorless, and thick in consistency. This is a natural protective reaction by the body to safeguard the cervix.
However, if the leukorrhea turns yellow, has an odor, or is accompanied by other abnormal symptoms, it may indicate vaginal inflammation or infection, such as bacterial vaginosis or fungal infection. It is advisable to seek medical attention promptly for routine leukorrhea examination to determine the type of inflammation. Pregnant women should undergo regular prenatal checkups, maintain good personal hygiene, wear breathable cotton underwear, and avoid excessive use of cleansers for vaginal washing.
In daily life, it is important to keep the genital area clean and dry to prevent bacterial infections.
