Severe abdominal pain during menstruation; tried brown sugar water and warm compresses, but effects were unsatisfactory. Would like to know what other methods are available to relieve the pain, so I can maintain a normal life during my period. It's been really unbearable.

Abdominal pain during menstruation is generally a manifestation of dysmenorrhea and can be relieved through adjustments in diet, appropriate exercise, warm compresses, massage, and medication.
Avoid consuming cold, spicy, or greasy foods. Instead, eat more warm, easily digestible, and nutrient-rich foods such as red dates, longan, and goji berries, which can help nourish the blood and vital energy and alleviate dysmenorrhea. Moderate exercise, such as walking or yoga, can improve blood circulation and release endorphins, which helps relieve menstrual pain. Applying a warm compress to the abdomen using a hot water bag or warming patch can enhance blood circulation and ease uterine smooth muscle spasms, thereby reducing pain.
Masaging specific acupoints, such as the Zhongji (CV3) and Guanyuan (CV4) points, can also help alleviate dysmenorrhea symptoms. When massaging, first warm your palms by rubbing them together, then gently massage in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction. If the dysmenorrhea is severe, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin or ibuprofen, may be taken under a doctor's guidance to relieve pain. Additionally, maintaining a positive mindset and reducing stress through methods like meditation and deep breathing can also help alleviate dysmenorrhea.
