Can I eat beef when I have a cold?
My husband has a cold and really wants to eat beef, but we are unsure whether beef will have any effect on his condition. Could you please advise, doctor, whether it's okay to eat beef when having a cold?

It is acceptable to consume moderate amounts of beef during a cold.
Beef is rich in high-quality protein, B-complex vitamins, iron, zinc, and other nutrients. These nutrients play a positive role in enhancing immune function, providing sufficient energy and nutrition to fight off viruses, and promoting recovery from a cold. During a cold, gastrointestinal function may decline, and the ability to digest proteins and fats may weaken. Therefore, it is recommended to consume beef in moderation to avoid excessive strain on the gastrointestinal system.
Diet should be light and bland during a cold. Spicy, greasy, and irritating foods should be avoided to prevent additional strain on the gastrointestinal system and worsening of cold symptoms. When consuming beef, it can be paired with easily digestible foods such as wax gourd (winter melon), Chinese yam, and tofu, as well as heat-clearing and phlegm-resolving fruits like pears and loquats, to assist the body in better absorbing nutrients and maintaining a balanced diet.
In addition to moderate beef consumption, it is also important to consume vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins and minerals, as well as high-quality protein sources such as fish and chicken, to maintain nutritional balance and enhance immune function.
