When gout recurs, the following measures can be taken:

1. Medication: During an acute gout attack, medications are used to relieve pain and inflammation. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as indomethacin and ibuprofen, are commonly used as first-line treatments. For patients who cannot tolerate NSAIDs or have contraindications, colchicine or corticosteroids may be considered. Additionally, keep the affected limb elevated and avoid weight-bearing and friction.

2. Dietary adjustment: Gout is closely related to diet. High-purine foods such as seafood, organ meats, and beer should be avoided. Maintain a light diet and consume more fresh vegetables and fruits, such as cucumbers, tomatoes, and apples. Drink plenty of water to promote uric acid excretion.

3. Long-term management: The goal of long-term gout management is to lower blood uric acid levels and prevent the formation and deposition of urate crystals. Commonly used urate-lowering drugs include allopurinol and febuxostat, which work by inhibiting uric acid production or promoting its excretion. The treatment target is to maintain serum uric acid levels below 6 mg/dL. For patients with tophi or frequent attacks, the target may be lower, at 5 mg/dL.

In addition, patients are advised to ensure adequate rest and avoid strenuous exercise and excessive fatigue. Engage in mild physical activities such as walking or jogging to promote metabolism. Also, avoid triggering factors such as infections, mental stress, and overexertion.
