Symptoms of Amenorrhea
A friend of mine, who is in her forties, has not had a menstrual period for two months already. We are not sure whether this indicates menopause. Could you please tell us what the symptoms of menopause are?

The symptoms of amenorrhea include absence of menstruation, changes in the reproductive organs, alterations in secondary sexual characteristics, infertility, and psychological changes.
1. Absence of menstruation: This is the most direct symptom of amenorrhea, characterized by a lack of menstrual bleeding for a certain period of time, or by the absence of menstruation for several consecutive months based on the individual's normal menstrual cycle.
2. Changes in the reproductive organs: Amenorrhea may lead to atrophy or underdevelopment of the reproductive organs, such as a smaller uterus and decreased ovarian function. These changes can further affect a woman's fertility and quality of life.
3. Alterations in secondary sexual characteristics: Since amenorrhea is often associated with changes in hormone levels, it may cause changes in secondary sexual characteristics, such as breast atrophy, loss of pubic and axillary hair, and decreased vaginal secretions.
4. Infertility: Amenorrhea is a common cause of female infertility. Due to the absence of menstruation, women are unable to ovulate normally, leading to infertility.
5. Psychological changes: Amenorrhea also can affect a woman's psychological state, causing anxiety, depression, irritability, and other emotional changes. These psychological symptoms may be directly caused by amenorrhea itself or may result from a combination of physical discomfort and reduced fertility associated with amenorrhea.
When experiencing symptoms of amenorrhea, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly and follow the guidance of a physician for treatment. Additionally, maintaining healthy lifestyle habits, a positive mental state, regular physical exercise, and proper nutritional supplementation can also help alleviate symptoms of amenorrhea and promote overall health.
