How long does it take to recover from laser eye surgery for myopia?
I am 20 years old this year, and my vision has declined significantly. Recently, I learned about a method called laser eye surgery for correcting vision, but I am concerned about the recovery time after the procedure. I would like to know how long it takes to recover and return to normal vision after undergoing laser eye surgery.

Laser eye surgery for myopia is a surgical procedure that uses laser technology to reshape the cornea, thereby altering the eye's refractive state and achieving the goal of vision correction. After surgery, most people's vision gradually improves within 1 to 15 days, but the time required for full recovery varies from person to person, depending on individual differences, the surgical method used, and postoperative care.
SMILE (small incision lenticule extraction) surgery generally has a faster recovery, with wounds healing within 1 to 3 days after surgery, allowing patients to quickly resume normal daily activities and work. LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) requires a somewhat longer recovery period, with wound healing taking approximately 3 to 10 days. Surface ablation procedures, such as PRK (photorefractive keratectomy), require removal of the corneal epithelium and therefore have a relatively longer recovery time, which may take 7 to 15 days. In addition, patients with high myopia, older age, or other health conditions may also experience a longer recovery period.
Although laser surgery can improve vision, it does not completely eliminate the possibility of vision deterioration in the future. It is recommended that patients follow the prescribed medication schedule during the recovery period, avoid rubbing or bumping the eyes to prevent infection, reduce eye strain after surgery, and avoid prolonged screen time or strenuous physical activity. Regular follow-up visits to the ophthalmology department are also advised so that doctors can monitor the recovery progress and provide timely guidance.
