Can photorejuvenation remove acne scars?
I am 22 years old and have some acne scars on my face. I would like to remove them and want to know whether photorejuvenation (intense pulsed light) can help eliminate acne scars.

In general, photorejuvenation can help reduce acne scars. Acne scars are usually formed due to inflammation from acne, which damages the skin tissue and leads to collagen loss, resulting in depressed scars. Photorejuvenation uses specific wavelengths of light energy that penetrate through the skin surface to the deeper layers, stimulating collagen regeneration and thus improving the appearance of acne scars.
Photorejuvenation can offer some improvement for acne scars (depressed scars left after acne inflammation), although the effectiveness may vary from person to person, mainly depending on the depth of the scars and individual skin's ability to recover. For superficial acne scars, photorejuvenation can promote collagen production, making the skin smoother and reducing the visibility of the scars. However, for deeper scars, multiple photorejuvenation treatments may be necessary to achieve noticeable results. In some cases, combining other treatments such as microneedling, laser therapy, or dermal fillers may be required to achieve better outcomes.
It is recommended to choose a reputable medical facility and undergo treatment under the guidance of a qualified physician. During the treatment process, patients should also take care to protect their eyes and other sensitive areas to prevent unnecessary injury.
