What causes chest distension and pain?
My wife is experiencing breast swelling and pain, but we are unsure of the cause. Could you please tell us, doctor, what are the possible causes of breast swelling and pain?

Chest distension and pain may be caused by female physiological responses, mammary gland hyperplasia, mastitis, cardiac diseases, or other reasons.
1. Female physiological response: Prior to menstruation, changes in hormone levels in the body, especially fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone, may stimulate the breasts, leading to chest distension and pain.
2. Mammary gland hyperplasia: Mammary gland hyperplasia is caused by endocrine hormone imbalance leading to proliferation and degenerative changes in breast tissue. Patients may experience chest distension and pain.
3. Mastitis: Mastitis is usually caused by bacterial infection of the breast tissue. Patients may experience chest distension and pain, accompanied by symptoms such as redness, swelling, and fever.
4. Cardiac diseases: Some cardiac diseases, such as coronary atherosclerotic heart disease or angina attacks, can manifest as chest distension and pain accompanied by chest tightness.
When experiencing chest distension and pain, patients are advised to seek timely medical evaluation to determine the underlying cause and receive targeted treatment. Additionally, maintaining healthy lifestyle habits and a positive mindset can also help alleviate chest distension and pain.
