Eating red dates in summer may cause heatiness in some people, but this is closely related to individual constitution and the amount consumed. Red dates are warm in nature and sweet in taste, entering the spleen and stomach meridians, and have the functions of replenishing vital energy, nourishing the blood, and calming the mind. In hot weather, the body's metabolism increases, and excessive consumption of warming foods may intensify internal heat, manifesting as symptoms of heatiness such as dry mouth, constipation, and mouth ulcers. However, individuals with a cold constitution or those consuming red dates in moderation generally do not experience these symptoms. The key is to adjust the intake according to one's own physical condition and climatic conditions.
It is recommended to consume no more than 5–8 red dates per day during summer. Individuals with yin deficiency and excessive internal heat or those prone to heatiness can instead combine neutral ingredients such as wolfberries and tremella. When consuming red dates, avoid taking them with other warming and drying ingredients like longan and red ginseng; instead, pair them with cooling foods such as tremella soup or mung bean soup.
