Does photorejuvenation for freckle removal have a rebound effect?
I am 47 years old this year, and I have developed spots on my face. I want to remove them but am worried about recurrence. I would like to know whether pigmentation returns after photorejuvenation treatment for spot removal?
In general, there is a possibility of recurrence after photorejuvenation for pigmentation removal, although not everyone will experience a rebound effect. Photorejuvenation is a cosmetic technique that uses intense pulsed light on the skin. Based on the principle of photothermal action, the melanin granules absorb the light energy, expand, and rupture, then are metabolized and expelled by the body, achieving a pigmentation removal effect. However, the results of pigmentation removal are not permanent, as photorejuvenation cannot fundamentally alter the physiological mechanisms by which the skin develops pigmentation.
Everyone's skin condition, metabolic capacity, and response to treatment vary. Some individuals may experience significant reduction in pigmentation after photorejuvenation, with long-lasting results, while others might see a quicker recurrence. After treatment, the skin becomes more sensitive and requires strict sun protection and moisturization to avoid aggravating pigmentation due to UV exposure. Neglecting postoperative care can easily lead to pigmentary rebound. Long-term UV exposure, irregular sleep patterns, improper diet, and other factors can promote pigment production and affect treatment outcomes.
To maintain long-lasting pigmentation removal effects, patients are advised to strictly follow medical instructions post-surgery, perform proper skin care and sun protection, and maintain healthy lifestyle habits, such as regular sleep patterns and a balanced diet.
