Does photorejuvenation treat acne scars?
I am 23 years old this year. I have recently been prone to acne breakouts. I heard that intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy works well and would like to know whether IPL can treat acne scars.

In general, photorejuvenation can treat acne marks. Photorejuvenation is an advanced aesthetic medical treatment that utilizes spectral light directly on the skin surface to target acne marks, achieving significant therapeutic effects.
This technology uses high-intensity pulsed light to irradiate the skin, which is preferentially absorbed by pigment particles and hemoglobin in the skin. For red acne marks, which are essentially caused by dilated and increased capillaries, specific wavelengths used in photorejuvenation can seal off the abnormally expanded blood vessels and promote their absorption, effectively improving red acne marks. For old brown acne marks, photorejuvenation helps fade the marks by promoting the metabolism of pigment cells and pigmentation.
However, please note that photorejuvenation has limited effectiveness on deep scars or atrophic acne scars (pitted scars). For such issues, other treatment methods may be required, such as microneedling, laser skin resurfacing, or dermal filler injections. Additionally, each individual's skin condition and response vary, so treatment outcomes may differ. Therefore, before undergoing photorejuvenation therapy, it is important to consult with a professional dermatologist and undergo a comprehensive skin assessment to determine the appropriate treatment plan.
