Is laser treatment for birthmarks painful?
I am 23 years old this year. I have a birthmark on my leg since childhood, and I want to remove it with laser treatment. I would like to know whether laser therapy for birthmarks is painful.

In general, laser treatment for birthmarks usually causes a certain degree of pain; however, most people can tolerate it, and the level of discomfort varies among individuals.
During laser treatment, the laser energy is absorbed by the pigment particles in the birthmark, generating high heat instantly and breaking up the pigment particles. This thermal effect stimulates nerve endings in the skin, resulting in a sensation of pain. Fortunately, modern laser equipment and techniques have advanced significantly, and many laser devices are now equipped with cooling systems that can lower skin temperature during treatment, thereby reducing discomfort.
Laser treatment usually cannot completely remove a birthmark in a single session; multiple treatments are generally required to achieve optimal results. The interval between each treatment varies depending on individual factors and the type of birthmark, typically ranging from several weeks to several months. After treatment, the treated area may experience redness, mild bleeding, or the formation of small blisters, which are normal reactions and usually subside on their own within a few days. To promote recovery and prevent infection, patients should follow medical advice for proper care, such as keeping the area clean and avoiding sun exposure.
