Can Sanqi (Notoginseng) and milk be consumed together?
I am a 40-year-old woman who has recently been taking Notoginseng powder to improve my health, and I also drink milk daily for nutritional supplementation. However, someone told me that Notoginseng and milk should not be consumed together, which has caused me confusion. I would like to know whether Notoginseng and milk can be consumed together.

Generally, Panax notoginseng and milk can be consumed together in moderate amounts. Panax notoginseng mainly contains active ingredients such as notoginsenosides, flavonoids, and polysaccharides, while milk primarily consists of proteins, fats, lactose, minerals, and vitamins. Theoretically, the components of these two foods are not incompatible, and consuming them together in moderate amounts will not cause harmful chemical reactions. This combination may enhance immune function and promote bone health, among other benefits.
However, due to individual differences in body constitution and the possibility of allergic reactions, it is recommended to proceed with caution when first trying to consume them together. Individuals with a history of allergies to milk or Panax notoginseng should especially follow medical guidance. Additionally, because Panax notoginseng has significant pharmacological effects, those currently taking other medications—particularly anticoagulant drugs—should consult a healthcare professional first to avoid potential drug interactions. Certain special populations, such as pregnant or breastfeeding women, should consume cautiously or avoid simultaneous consumption. During consumption, if any adverse symptoms occur, medical attention should be sought promptly and professional medical advice followed.
