It is normal for urine to turn red after consuming dragon fruit, and this usually does not require concern. Dragon fruit, especially red-fleshed dragon fruit, contains abundant natural pigments known as betalains. These pigments are not easily completely broken down or absorbed by the human body and are excreted through urine or feces, causing the urine to appear red or pink. This condition is a physiological pigment metabolism reaction and not caused by disease. It generally returns to normal within 1-2 days after stopping dragon fruit consumption. However, if the abnormal urine color is accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, fever, or frequent urination, it may indicate other health issues.

If you notice red-colored urine and have recently consumed dragon fruit, observe your physical condition first, stop eating dragon fruit temporarily, and drink more water to promote metabolism. If the urine color has not returned to normal after several days or if other discomforts occur, seek medical attention promptly to rule out potential urinary system diseases or other causes. Maintain a diverse diet in daily life and avoid consuming large amounts of naturally pigmented foods at one time.
