Ear pain may be related to problems within the ear itself or influences from other areas. Ear conditions such as otitis externa, otitis media, or earwax blockage are common causes; these situations are usually accompanied by ear discomfort or hearing loss. If the ear canal becomes infected, symptoms such as redness, swelling, heat, and pain may occur. Additionally, dental issues, temporomandibular joint inflammation, or throat infections may trigger ear pain through nerve reflexes; this type of pain is known as referred pain. External factors such as changes in air pressure, prolonged use of headphones, or physical impact to the ear can also cause ear pain. Excessive mental stress or lack of sleep might exacerbate symptoms, making the pain more pronounced.

When experiencing ear pain, it is advisable to first observe whether there are other accompanying symptoms, such as fever, increased ear discharge, or changes in hearing. If there are clear signs of an ear infection, prompt medical examination is recommended to avoid delayed treatment. In daily life, avoid frequently cleaning the ears or using unclean tools, to prevent damage or infection to the ear canal. It is important to keep the ears dry, especially by promptly drying the ear canal after bathing or swimming. In terms of diet, try to avoid overly hard foods to reduce chewing-related pressure on the ears. If the pain persists for a long time or recurs frequently, it is essential to consult an otolaryngologist as soon as possible.
