Can cucumbers be used to敷 (apply to) the eyes?
I'm 18 years old this year, and I've been staying up very late recently, resulting in dark circles under my eyes. I would like to know if I can apply cucumber on my eyes?

In general, cucumbers can be applied to the eyes and have positive short-term effects in relieving eye discomfort and improving appearance, but proper application techniques should be followed and results realistically assessed.
Cucumbers contain over 95% water. Their moisture can penetrate the skin around the eyes through cold application, temporarily relieving tightness caused by dryness, especially suitable for people who stay in air-conditioned rooms for long periods or overuse their eyes. The cold environment can constrict blood vessels and reduce eye redness; polyphenolic substances in cucumbers, such as caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid, have anti-inflammatory properties that may help alleviate acute swelling caused by staying up late or crying.
Vitamin C, vitamin K, and flavonoid components can inhibit free radical activity, reducing darkening caused by ultraviolet exposure or oxidative stress. However, long-term consistent use is required and effects are limited, so they cannot replace professional brightening products. Note that cucumbers not thoroughly washed may have residual pesticides, bacteria, or parasite eggs on their surfaces, which could cause conjunctivitis or styes if directly contacting the eye mucous membranes.
When applying cucumbers to the eyes, maintaining eye hygiene is important to avoid irritation or infection from residues on the cucumber slices entering the eyes. Fresh, uncontaminated cucumbers should be selected to ensure safety and effectiveness.
