What Causes Peeling Skin on Children’s Hands and Feet?
Disease description:
My child has been experiencing severe peeling of the skin on the hands and feet recently. A friend suggested it’s due to malnutrition. Could you please explain what causes peeling of the hands and feet in children?
Hello, peeling of the hands and feet in children is commonly caused by dyshidrotic eczema. This condition arises when excessive sweating on the hands and feet leads to maceration (softening and breaking down) of the skin’s stratum corneum (outermost layer). Following maceration, the stratum corneum sustains mild damage, resulting in its shedding or peeling.
We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
