Disease description:

Recently, I’ve noticed something unusual with my eyes: they start tearing up whenever I go outside and am exposed to wind. This hasn’t been this severe before. Could you please explain what exactly causes excessive tearing when the eyes are exposed to wind?

Hello, excessive tearing when exposed to wind is commonly caused by external irritants such as wind or dust, abnormalities in tear dynamics, or narrowing or obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct. It is highly likely due to an inflammatory response; however, allergic conjunctivitis may also cause this symptom. Additionally, nasolacrimal duct obstruction or dacryocystitis can similarly lead to wind-induced epiphora. If possible, we recommend visiting a hospital for evaluation—there’s no need for excessive concern. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
