How is chronic otomastoiditis treated?
Disease description:
I have been experiencing persistent pain inside my ear canal. My doctor diagnosed me with chronic otomastoiditis. How is chronic otomastoiditis treated?
For chronic otomastoiditis, patients should actively cooperate with their physicians and receive systemic antibiotic therapy at adequate doses and for a sufficient duration to control the infection—for example, intravenous administration of cephalosporins or penicillin-class antibiotics—which helps suppress inflammation and promotes recovery. Additionally, prior to tympanic membrane perforation, local treatment may include cleansing the ear canal with hydrogen peroxide solution followed by instillation of phenol-glycerin ear drops.
