What are the complications of calcaneal fractures?
Disease description:
I recently sustained a calcaneal fracture at work. I’ve mostly recovered, but I still feel restricted in movement. What are the possible sequelae of a calcaneal fracture?
There are numerous complications following calcaneal fractures, with common ones including heel pain, tendinitis, and Achilles tendinitis. In cases of severe calcaneal fracture, patients often experience persistent, refractory pain after recovery—particularly during cold, damp weather or after physical exertion. Some patients may also develop post-traumatic arthritis or deformity at the calcaneal site, impairing normal ambulation.
