Does a low forehead temperature in infants indicate fever?
Disease description:
The baby is only 6 months old, isn’t crying or fussing, and feels unusually cool to the touch on the forehead. Could this indicate a fever?
A low forehead temperature in infants does not necessarily indicate fever; if the child is alert and in good spirits, there is no need for excessive concern. The low forehead temperature is likely due to exposure to cool air or insufficient clothing. You may take the child’s body temperature—fever is defined as a temperature above 36.5°C but below 37.5°C. If fever is confirmed, administer an appropriate oral antipyretic promptly and use physical cooling methods to help reduce the temperature.
