Dr. Jin Zhongkui
The ketogenic diet is a weight-loss method that induces the body to produce ketone bodies as an energy source by restricting carbohydrate intake and increasing fat consumption. Although it may lead to short-term weight loss, long-term use or improper implementation poses significant health risks: 1. It may cause malnutrition, as carbohydrate restriction can result in inadequate intake of vitamins and minerals. 2. It may impair kidney function, since ketone bodies are metabolized by the kidneys; insufficient fluid intake can further increase renal workload. 3. High fat intake may elevate the risk of cardiovascular diseases, such as coronary artery atherosclerotic heart disease and hypertension. Additionally, it may contribute to gastrointestinal disorders, endocrine disorders, and other health complications.
