Typical symptoms of Meniere's syndrome include episodic vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, and accompanying tinnitus or aural fullness.

Ménière's syndrome is a common otogenic peripheral vertigo disorder. Patients with Ménière's syndrome are prone to experiencing uncomfortable symptoms. What exactly is Ménière's syndrome?

What Is Ménière's Syndrome?

Ménière's syndrome is a common disease that causes vertigo, primarily affecting one ear, although in some cases it may affect both ears. The causes of Ménière's syndrome are varied and may include endolymphatic fluid production disorders, endocrine factors, immune factors, genetic factors, and others.

The typical symptoms of Ménière's syndrome include episodic vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, and accompanying tinnitus or aural fullness. Vertigo episodes usually last from 20 minutes to 12 hours. Severe attacks may be accompanied by autonomic nervous system symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, pallor, and cold sweats. In terms of fluctuating hearing loss, early stages typically involve low-frequency hearing impairment, which may return to normal during symptom-free intervals. With repeated episodes, however, sensorineural hearing loss involving the mid-to-high frequencies develops, and tinnitus and aural fullness become progressively irreversible.

Treatment mainly involves symptomatic use of medications to nourish nerves and improve circulation. This condition occurs across various age groups but is most commonly seen in women aged 30–40. Adequate rest is important during treatment, along with a low-salt, low-fat diet. Avoid spicy or irritating foods and try not to become overly anxious. We hope this information is helpful to you.
