Introduction
Job's tears (yi mi) is a low-purine food. Consuming low-purine Job's tears does not increase the source of blood uric acid in patients; therefore, individuals with high uric acid levels can eat Job's tears. Patients with elevated uric acid should avoid foods high in purine. Foods particularly high in purine include animal offal, shellfish seafood, and meat broths.

In daily life, patients with high uric acid levels have certain dietary restrictions. Some patients want to eat coix seed (Job's tears), but are unsure whether it will affect their condition. So, can people with high uric acid eat coix seed?

Can People with High Uric Acid Eat Coix Seed?

Coix seed is considered a low-purine food. Consuming low-purine coix seed does not increase the source of blood uric acid in the body. Therefore, patients with high uric acid levels can safely eat coix seed.

Patients with high uric acid should avoid foods high in purines. Foods particularly rich in purines include animal offal, shellfish, meat broths, and certain preserved or dried vegetables. Current research indicates that all types of alcohol—whether beer or liquor—should be consumed sparingly, as alcohol reduces uric acid excretion and may elevate blood uric acid levels. However, some studies suggest that moderate consumption of red wine does not significantly raise uric acid levels. Therefore, small to moderate amounts of red wine may be acceptable. In fact, patients with hyperuricemia or gout do not necessarily need to follow a strictly vegetarian diet. Only during acute gout attacks is strict dietary control required; during remission periods, general dietary management is sufficient.

If patients experience symptoms related to this condition, they should seek timely medical treatment. Daily diets should primarily consist of light foods. Drinking plenty of plain water helps enhance metabolism and supports recovery. We hope this article has been helpful to you. Wishing you good health and a happy life!
