Introduction
Obstruction of the appendix lumen by a foreign body can lead to acute appendicitis, causing pain in the lower right abdomen. It may also result from infection with Helicobacter pylori, excessive gastric acid secretion, or reduced defensive function of the duodenum, leading to duodenal ulcers. Rupture of abdominal organs or conditions such as acute appendicitis or perforated duodenal ulcer can cause peritonitis, resulting in pain in the lower right abdomen.
Common causes of pain in the lower right abdomen include acute appendicitis, duodenal ulcer, and peritonitis.
1. Acute Appendicitis
The appendix is located in the lower right abdomen. When the appendix lumen becomes obstructed by secretions, parasites, or other foreign materials, and infection develops due to delayed treatment, acute appendicitis may occur, leading to pain in the lower right abdomen.
2. Duodenal Ulcer
Pain in the lower right abdomen may also result from infection with Helicobacter pylori, excessive gastric acid secretion, or reduced defensive function of the duodenum, which can damage the duodenal mucosa and lead to a duodenal ulcer. This condition often causes persistent pain beneath the xiphoid process.
3. Peritonitis
Peritonitis may develop when abdominal organs rupture due to external trauma, or when complications such as perforation of acute appendicitis or perforated duodenal ulcer occur, allowing exudate to enter the abdominal cavity. This leads to symptoms such as abdominal pain and nausea, resulting in pain in the lower right abdomen.
