Introduction
Generally, you should not drink alcohol in the evening if you took levofloxacin in the morning. Levofloxacin can easily cause a disulfiram-like reaction when combined with ethanol. Even by evening, the drug components are usually not completely metabolized after a morning dose. Therefore, drinking alcohol in the evening may readily trigger a disulfiram-like reaction, meaning you should avoid alcohol after taking levofloxacin in the morning.

Generally, you should not drink alcohol in the evening if you took levofloxacin in the morning. It is usually necessary to wait at least one week after stopping the medication before drinking alcohol.

Levofloxacin, commonly available as levofloxacin hydrochloride capsules or levofloxacin tablets, is a quinolone antibiotic used to treat infections of the respiratory and digestive systems caused by susceptible bacteria. When levofloxacin interacts with ethanol, it may trigger a disulfiram-like reaction. This reaction can cause mild symptoms such as chest tightness, shortness of breath, throat swelling, and weakness, but severe cases may lead to shock, loss of consciousness, or even death. Since the drug components are typically not fully metabolized by evening after a morning dose, drinking alcohol that night increases the risk of a disulfiram-like reaction. Therefore, drinking alcohol in the evening is not recommended after taking levofloxacin in the morning.

After taking levofloxacin in the morning, all alcoholic beverages and any drinks containing ethanol should be strictly avoided. Additionally, alcohol consumption should generally be delayed for at least one week after discontinuing the medication. For safety, it is advisable to consult your doctor before drinking alcohol.
