Introduction
Blurred vision upon waking from sleeping in a prone position may be caused by changes in refractive status of the eyes. It is recommended to adjust sleeping posture, reduce eye strain, and prevent eye fatigue. If the condition is due to conjunctivitis, use rifampicin eye drops or chloramphenicol eye ointment as directed by a physician. If it is caused by dry eye syndrome, treatments may include sodium hyaluronate eye drops, punctal plug insertion, or eyelid plastic surgery.

Blurred vision upon waking up from sleeping in a prone position may be caused by physiological factors or pathological conditions such as conjunctivitis or dry eye syndrome.

I. Physiological Factors

This may occur due to eye secretions accumulating and obstructing the visual field while sleeping face down, or because pressure on the eyeball during prone sleep causes temporary refractive changes. It is recommended to adjust sleeping posture, reduce eye strain, and prevent eye fatigue.

II. Pathological Factors

1. Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis may result from irritation caused by environmental factors such as wind and sand or chemical substances, or from infections of the eye by pathogenic microorganisms such as chlamydia, bacteria, or viruses. Increased or thickened eye discharge may stick to the eyelashes, causing blurred vision. Under medical guidance, medications such as rifampicin eye drops, chloramphenicol eye ointment, or erythromycin eye ointment can be used to treat the infection and alleviate symptoms.

2. Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry eye syndrome may develop due to prolonged exposure to wind and sun, or excessive use of electronic devices such as smartphones and computers, leading to eye fatigue, reduced tear secretion, or excessive tear evaporation. This results in decreased stability of the tear film. Treatment may include using sodium hyaluronate eye drops, methylcellulose sodium eye drops, or compound dextran eye drops as prescribed by a doctor. In some cases, surgical options such as punctal plug insertion or eyelid plastic surgery may be considered.

In addition, conditions such as glaucoma could also cause similar symptoms. Timely differential diagnosis is recommended.
