Introduction
If burping is difficult to achieve, adults can try standing upright for a longer period, while younger infants may benefit from being held upright to facilitate burping. Adults can also engage in light slow walking, whereas for infants and young children, gently massaging the abdomen can help promote gas release. For those unable to remain active for extended periods, adopting a left lateral or right lateral decubitus position may also help alleviate symptoms.

If belching cannot be achieved, it can usually be improved by increasing the duration of upright positioning, engaging in appropriate physical activity, or adjusting sleeping positions.

  1. Increase duration of upright positioning

For adults, increasing standing time may help. For younger infants, holding them upright after feeding can promote upward movement of gas in the stomach or esophagus, thereby facilitating burping.

  2. Appropriate exercise

Adults may benefit from light walking, while for infants and young children, gently massaging the abdomen can increase gastrointestinal pressure and help expel gas.

  3. Adjust sleeping position

If prolonged physical activity is not suitable, improvement may also be achieved during rest by lying on the left or right side.
