What should not be eaten before blood draw
Do not eat spicy, stimulating foods, greasy foods, or high-sugar foods before blood collection.
1. Spicy and stimulating foods
Before blood collection, fasting is generally required. In the three days prior to the blood draw, maintain a light diet and avoid spicy and stimulating foods such as chili peppers and hot pot. Alcohol should also be avoided, as it is highly stimulating and may affect test results.
2. Greasy foods
Avoid eating greasy foods such as fried dough sticks (youtiao) and fatty meats before blood testing, as they may lead to inaccurate test results. Additionally, ensure you fast for approximately 12 hours.
3. High-sugar foods
Blood tests often include various items; therefore, avoid consuming high-sugar foods like chocolate and cake before blood collection, as these may affect test outcomes by increasing the patient's blood glucose levels.
In addition, avoid smoking and taking medications before blood collection. When having blood drawn, wear loose and comfortable clothing. After the procedure, take care of the puncture site and avoid getting it wet.
