Does eating chocolate worsen fever?
Fever refers to an elevated body temperature. Consuming chocolate during a fever may worsen the condition.
Chocolate contains ingredients such as sugar and cocoa butter, which may stimulate the body and lead to increased discomfort. Therefore, it is recommended to avoid high-calorie, high-fat, and high-sugar foods like chocolate during fever to prevent interference with recovery.
Fever is a normal response of the body's immune system fighting against pathogens. However, if the body temperature becomes too high or persists for an extended period, measures should be taken to reduce it. Physical cooling methods such as lukewarm sponge baths or applying cold packs can be used, but ice water or excessively cold objects should not be applied directly to the skin to avoid causing other complications. If body temperature exceeds 38.5°C and is accompanied by severe symptoms such as dizziness, headache, or weakness in limbs, antipyretic medications such as acetaminophen tablets or ibuprofen sustained-release capsules may be taken under medical guidance.
Diet should be light during fever, and drinking plenty of water is advised to help the body eliminate toxins and promote recovery. Adequate rest and avoiding excessive physical activity are also important to support healing. If the fever lasts too long or is accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty breathing or confusion, prompt medical attention is necessary.
