Can you eat persimmons after drinking alcohol? Will it cause poisoning?
It is not recommended to eat persimmons immediately after drinking alcohol, as it may lead to poisoning.
Avoid eating persimmons right after consuming alcohol because persimmons contain a high amount of tannic acid. Under the influence of alcohol, tannic acid may form solid clumps in the gastrointestinal tract, which can easily cause discomfort such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Symptoms can be relieved under a doctor's guidance with medications such as cisapride tablets, omeprazole enteric-coated capsules, or levofloxacin hydrochloride capsules. Additionally, the tannic acid in persimmons may combine with alcohol to form a toxic substance that could potentially harm the body. Therefore, it is not advisable to eat persimmons immediately after drinking alcohol, although poisoning does not typically occur.
If you have already consumed alcohol, it is best to wait some time until the alcohol has been metabolized before eating persimmons. Also, if you wish to eat persimmons, opt for ripe ones, as they contain lower levels of tannic acid and are less likely to cause discomfort. Furthermore, avoid overeating persimmons to prevent indigestion.
It is recommended to regularly consume easily digestible foods such as millet porridge, vegetable porridge, lotus seed porridge, and noodles to help maintain gastric mucosal health.
