How long does it take for bone and soft tissue injuries to heal?
Recovery from bone and soft tissue injuries may take 1 to 6 weeks, depending on the severity of the injury. Active treatment is recommended.
1. Mild Injury
If there is a minor contusion or damage to the bone's soft tissues due to intense physical activity or improper exercise posture, it is advised to rest adequately and limit movement. Apply cold compresses to the affected area within the first 48 hours, followed by heat compresses after 48 hours to help reduce swelling and pain. If necessary, take anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving medications such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, celecoxib capsules, or acetaminophen tablets as directed by a physician. Typically, mild injuries gradually heal within 1 to 3 weeks.
2. Severe Injury
In cases of severe soft tissue damage involving ligament tears or ruptures, which cause significant swelling, pain, and restricted movement, emergency ligament reconstruction surgery under medical guidance may be required. In such cases, recovery time is longer and may take 4 to 6 weeks.
During treatment, keep the injured area warm, get plenty of rest, and avoid overuse to prevent delayed recovery.
