What causes black discharge?
Blackish discharge may be related to physiological factors, such as ovulation bleeding, or could result from pathological conditions like cervicitis or endometritis. Treatment should be based on the specific underlying cause.
I. Physiological Factors
During ovulation, hormonal fluctuations in women can lead to shedding of the endometrial lining, resulting in vaginal bleeding. This is a normal physiological phenomenon that typically does not require special treatment, although maintaining good personal hygiene is important.
II. Pathological Factors
1. Cervicitis
Infection of the cervix by pathogens such as *Chlamydia trachomatis* or *Neisseria gonorrhoeae* may cause abnormal vaginal bleeding. When blood volume is small, it may remain in the vaginal folds and appear as dark brown or blackish discharge. During an active infection, consult a doctor about using medications such as metronidazole tablets, tinidazole tablets, or Baofukang suppositories to control inflammation and promote recovery.
2. Endometritis
Inflammatory infection of the endometrium chronically irritates the uterus, leading to purulent discharge. In severe cases, abnormal secretions may occur along with symptoms such as vulvar itching and swelling. After diagnosis, consult a physician for appropriate medication, such as azithromycin capsules or clarithromycin sustained-release tablets. Sexual intercourse should be avoided during treatment.
Besides the above, conditions such as endometriosis may also cause blackish discharge. During illness, ensure adequate rest, maintain a balanced diet, and avoid irritating foods.
