How many weeks into in vitro fertilization (IVF) can the fetal heartbeat and fetal bud be detected?

Introduction
At 6 to 7 weeks of gestation, fetal heartbeat and fetal bud are usually visible. Here is a detailed explanation: sperm and egg combine to form a fertilized egg, which implants in the uterus and develops into a gestational sac. This then progressively develops into a fetal bud and subsequently forms the primitive heart tube. In women with regular menstrual cycles, a gynecological ultrasound performed after 42 days of missed menstruation can typically detect the fetal heartbeat and fetal bud.

Under normal circumstances, a fetal heartbeat and fetal bud can be observed in vitro fertilization (IVF) pregnancies at around 6 to 7 weeks. The specific analysis is as follows:

Sperm and egg combine to form a fertilized egg, which implants in the uterus and develops into a gestational sac. This then progressively develops into a fetal bud and subsequently forms the primitive cardiac tube. In women with regular menstrual cycles, a transvaginal ultrasound examination performed more than 42 days after the last menstrual period can detect the fetal bud and heartbeat. At this stage, the gestational sac typically has a diameter of about 20mm. For women with irregular menstrual cycles or longer cycles, the detection of fetal bud and heartbeat via ultrasound may be delayed. Generally, when the gestational sac reaches a diameter of 20mm, the fetal bud and heartbeat should become visible. At this point, the IVF pregnancy usually corresponds to approximately 6–7 weeks' gestation, when the fetal bud and heartbeat are normally expected to appear. If the gestational sac exceeds 25mm in diameter and the pregnancy is beyond 7 weeks without detection of a fetal bud or heartbeat, this is considered abnormal. It is recommended to visit a hospital for further evaluation, including assessment of progesterone and hCG levels, to determine whether embryonic development has ceased.

In daily life, individuals should undergo regular medical check-ups to closely monitor their health. If any abnormalities occur, prompt medical evaluation is essential, and appropriate interventions should be pursued accordingly.
