Introduction
Hearing assessment is a critical method for evaluating the function of the auditory system, aiding in the early detection of hearing impairment, diagnosis of ear disorders, and monitoring of treatment efficacy. Common hearing assessment methods include pure-tone audiometry, tympanometry (acoustic immittance testing), otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing, and auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing. In pure-tone audiometry, normal air-conduction hearing thresholds should be within 25 decibels (dB).

The normal hearing threshold is generally ≤25 decibels (dB).

Hearing assessment is a critical method for evaluating auditory system function, enabling early detection of hearing impairment, diagnosis of ear disorders, and monitoring of therapeutic efficacy. Common hearing tests include pure-tone audiometry, tympanometry (acoustic immittance testing), otoacoustic emissions (OAE) testing, and auditory brainstem response (ABR) testing. In pure-tone audiometry, the normal air-conduction hearing threshold is ≤25 dB, and the bone-conduction threshold is similarly ≤25 dB.

Air-conduction testing evaluates hearing function across the outer, middle, and inner ear, whereas bone-conduction testing primarily assesses inner ear and auditory nerve function. In tympanometry, a normal tympanogram displays a Type A pattern, with peak pressure between ±50 daPa and peak compliance ranging from 0.3–1.6 mL—indicating normal middle-ear sound transmission function. Integrating these hearing assessment methods allows for comprehensive and accurate evaluation of hearing status, identification of the type and degree of hearing loss, and provision of essential information to guide subsequent diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.

In daily life, maintain good ear hygiene and avoid vigorous rubbing or squeezing of the ears. Cultivate healthy lifestyle habits: avoid excessive fatigue and strenuous physical activity, which may otherwise trigger bodily discomfort.
