Introduction
Cranberries may offer some supportive benefits for gynecological health, but they are not a treatment for gynecological diseases, as cranberries lack therapeutic efficacy against such conditions. Gynecological infections in women typically result from bacterial infections caused by unhygienic sexual practices or poor external genital hygiene. During treatment, sexual activity must be avoided; therefore, relying on cranberries alone is inappropriate and may delay optimal treatment.

Many people may be unfamiliar with cranberries, as they are relatively uncommon in daily life. In fact, however, cranberries offer numerous health benefits—such as being low in calories, high in dietary fiber, and rich in essential minerals. Moreover, their various health-promoting properties have attracted considerable attention. So, do cranberries benefit gynecological health? The following section addresses this question.

Do Cranberries Benefit Gynecological Health?

Cranberries may serve as a supportive adjunct in managing certain gynecological concerns, but they are not a treatment for gynecological diseases. Cranberries lack therapeutic efficacy against such conditions. Gynecological infections in women typically arise from bacterial contamination due to unhygienic sexual practices or poor external genital hygiene. During treatment, abstinence from sexual activity is generally advised; therefore, relying solely on cranberries for treatment is inappropriate and may delay timely medical intervention. Regarding claims that cranberries prevent or treat gynecological inflammation, it should be clarified that “gynecological inflammation” in this context usually refers to urinary tract infections (UTIs) and cystitis. Cranberries may help in two primary ways: first, by helping maintain normal urinary pH levels, thereby inhibiting bacterial proliferation; and second, by preventing bacteria from adhering to the walls of the urinary tract.

Knowledge Extension: Contraindications for Cranberry Supplements

1. Not Recommended for Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women

Although no experimental evidence confirms that cranberry supplements are unsafe during pregnancy or lactation, neither has their safety been definitively established. Therefore, for precautionary reasons, it is advisable to avoid consumption during these periods.

2. Avoid Use Several Weeks Before and After Surgery

Anticoagulant medications are commonly administered before and after surgery. Cranberry supplements should not be taken concurrently with anticoagulants, as they may interfere with the drugs’ anticoagulant effects and increase the risk of bleeding.
