Introduction
Patients with gastroenteric influenza do not require anti-inflammatory medications unless a bacterial infection is present. The most common causes of gastroenteric influenza are viral infections and allergic reactions to food. After pathogens—particularly viruses—infect and inflame the throat, they enter the gastrointestinal tract via food or saliva, leading to gastrointestinal discomfort.

Patients with gastroenteric influenza (viral gastroenteritis) do not require anti-inflammatory medications if no bacterial infection is present. The most common causes of gastroenteric influenza are viral infections and allergic reactions to certain foods. After pathogens—particularly viruses—infect and inflame the throat, they may enter the gastrointestinal tract via ingested food or saliva, leading to gastrointestinal discomfort.

Which anti-inflammatory medications should be taken for gastroenteric influenza?

Primary symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Management of gastroenteric influenza focuses mainly on rest to conserve energy, along with rehydration, antidiarrheal therapy, and maintenance of electrolyte balance. If fever occurs, physical cooling methods (e.g., tepid sponging) are recommended.

Standard treatment for gastroenteric influenza includes oral administration of Huoxiang Zhengqi tablets or Huoxiang Zhengqi oral solution; alternatively, Simo Tang (a traditional Chinese herbal formula) may be used. In cases of severe vomiting or diarrhea, prompt rehydration therapy is essential to prevent dehydration; oral berberine (Coptis chinensis extract) may also be administered. For patients with severe diarrhea, temporary fasting (“hunger therapy”) may be advised. If a concurrent bacterial infection is confirmed, antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin or ofloxacin may be prescribed.

Diet should consist exclusively of warm, bland, easily digestible foods—preferably liquid or semi-liquid meals. Raw, cold, spicy, greasy, or heavily seasoned foods must be avoided. Living environments should be well-ventilated, and patients should take care to stay warm and avoid exposure to cold air. Clothing should be adjusted promptly according to weather changes, and wearing a mask during necessary outdoor activities is advisable to minimize cold-air exposure.

We hope the above information is helpful. Wishing you good health and happiness!
