Pharmacological Effects and Indications of Niuhuang Jiaxiaozuo Tablets
The recommended dosage is two tablets per administration, twice daily, preferably taken after meals. Adverse reactions may occur; the most severe include seizures and peripheral neuropathy—particularly at high doses. Peripheral neuropathy typically manifests as limb numbness and paresthesia.
Other common adverse reactions involve the gastrointestinal system, such as nausea, anorexia, dry mouth, a metallic taste in the mouth, and reversible granulocytopenia.
Hypersensitivity reactions—including rash and urticaria—may also occur. Central nervous system (CNS) symptoms may include dizziness, vertigo, syncope, paresthesia, and limb numbness. Additional adverse effects may include fever, vaginal candidiasis, cystitis, dysuria, and dark-colored urine. All these adverse effects are generally reversible and typically resolve spontaneously upon discontinuation of the drug.
This medication is contraindicated in pregnant women, patients consuming alcohol, individuals with active CNS disorders or hematologic diseases, and those with known hypersensitivity to metronidazole.
