What acupoints are located on the hand?
In daily life, people often say, “The ten fingers are connected to the heart”—and this is not without basis. The fingers contain numerous joints and acupoints. So, what acupoints are located on the hands?
Acupoints on the Hands
Acupoints on the hands include Qian Gu (SI 2), Zhong Chong (PC 9), Shao Ze (SI 1), Shao Shang (LU 11), He Gu (LI 4), Da Yu Ji (LU 10), Guan Chong (SJ 1), and Shao Chong (HT 9), among others—primarily belonging to the three yin and three yang meridians of the hand. Clinically, He Gu (LI 4), Zan Zhu (BL 2), Sun (EX-HN 5), Jia Che (ST 6), and Di Cang (ST 4) are commonly used to treat facial nerve inflammation (Bell’s palsy). For emergency treatment of syncope (fainting), bloodletting is performed at the Ten Jing (Well) points (i.e., the distal acupoints of the twelve regular meridians). For sore throat and pharyngeal swelling, acupoints such as Yu Ji (LU 10), Shao Shang (LU 11), Lian Quan (CV 23), and Tian Tu (CV 22) are selected. For cervical and shoulder pain, acupoints including Tian Zhu (BL 10), Tian Ding (LI 17), Jing Bai Lao (EX-HN 15), Feng Chi (GB 20), and Jian Wai Yu (SI 14) may be utilized. In cases of childhood indigestion, acupuncture at the Si Feng (Extra) points—combined with gentle squeezing to express interstitial fluid—can help improve digestive function. Acupuncture or bloodletting at the Twelve Jing (Well) points can invigorate the spirit and relieve summer-heat. All acupuncture treatments must be administered by a qualified licensed practitioner. Self-acupuncture is strongly discouraged to avoid potential nerve injury.

During self-massage, gently pinch the thumbs, middle fingers, and ring fingers of both hands while keeping the remaining fingers relaxed. Performing this simple massage whenever convenient can effectively tonify kidney yang and strengthen the spleen. Alternatively, pinching the nails of the thumbs, ring fingers, and little fingers of both hands—while relaxing the other fingers—helps clear liver heat and improve vision. Additionally, it is advisable to apply warm compresses using hot water prior to massage; however, the duration should not exceed 20 minutes to facilitate accurate acupoint location.

Although acupoint massage offers significant health benefits, proper technique and methodology are essential. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
