Introduction
The ingredients in electric mosquito repellents are harmful to humans and may trigger various diseases. Mosquito coils contain chemical substances that kill insects and act as insect repellents, the most common of which are pyrethroids. These compounds are synthetically produced. Prolonged use may lead to hematologic disorders such as multiple myeloma, leukemia, and lymphoma.

Mosquitoes become especially rampant each summer, and prolonged mosquito bites can cause intense skin itching.

Are electric mosquito-repellent pads toxic?

The active ingredients in electric mosquito-repellent pads are harmful to humans and may trigger various diseases. These products contain chemical substances—including insecticides and repellents—designed to kill or repel insects. The most common active ingredient is synthetic pyrethroids. Prolonged use may increase the risk of hematologic disorders such as multiple myeloma, leukemia, and lymphoma. Moreover, these chemicals can enter the human body via direct skin contact or inhalation; thus, long-term exposure may damage internal organs and tissues. Infants and young children are particularly sensitive to these substances, placing them at higher risk for adverse health effects. Pregnant women, infants, and children should therefore minimize their use of such products.

Mosquitoes primarily threaten human health by transmitting diseases—over 80 distinct mosquito-borne illnesses have been identified. No other insect poses a greater threat to human health globally. Worldwide, there are over 2,000 mosquito species, with approximately 140 found in China. Disease-transmitting mosquitoes fall into three main categories: Anopheles mosquitoes (commonly known as “malaria mosquitoes”), which primarily transmit malaria; Culex mosquitoes, mainly responsible for spreading filariasis and Japanese encephalitis;
