What causes white discharge from the urethral opening?
Disease description:
I’ve noticed some white discharge coming from my urethral opening, and I’m very concerned. What could be causing white discharge from the urethra?
Discharge of white fluid from the urethral opening may be caused by chronic prostatitis or a urinary tract infection; however, it could also result from “excess internal heat” (a traditional Chinese medicine concept). If this symptom occurs frequently, prompt evaluation at a reputable hospital is essential. If chronic prostatitis is diagnosed, anti-inflammatory medications prescribed by a physician may be used. If a urinary tract infection is confirmed, timely antibiotic therapy—such as levofloxacin—is required.
