Can hypothyroidism-related cold intolerance be reversed?
Disease description:
My good friend has hypothyroidism and is extremely sensitive to cold—even wearing heavy clothing doesn’t help. Can the cold intolerance associated with hypothyroidism be reversed?
Hypothyroidism is primarily a clinical syndrome caused by decreased secretion of thyroid hormones in the body, characterized mainly by a reduced basal metabolic rate. It significantly impacts patients’ health; therefore, timely consultation with an endocrinologist is essential. Treatment typically involves oral administration of levothyroxine (e.g., Synthroid®), with dosage adjustments guided by thyroid hormone test results. Patients should maintain adequate nutrition and avoid overexertion or sleep deprivation. Once the condition is well-controlled, symptoms such as cold intolerance generally improve.
