Why does heatstroke cause chills?
Disease description:
Hello, I am 21 years old. I recently suffered from heatstroke, and afterward I have constantly felt cold. I would like to know why one feels cold after heatstroke?
The main reasons for feeling cold after heatstroke include the following:
1. Imbalance in body temperature regulation: During heatstroke, the body's temperature regulation center is affected by high temperatures or stress, leading to functional disturbances and impaired thermoregulation. Initially, body temperature may rise, causing general feverishness; however, as the condition progresses, symptoms such as chills and shivering may occur.
2. Electrolyte imbalance: Excessive sweating during heatstroke can lead to significant loss of electrolytes such as potassium and sodium, resulting in imbalances like hypokalemia (low potassium) and hyponatremia (low sodium), which can further cause chills, fatigue, and other related symptoms.
3. Environmental factors and improper management: When treating heatstroke patients, setting the ambient temperature too low or using fans, air conditioners, or other ventilation devices improperly may cause rapid evaporation of sweat, making the patient feel cold.
Prompt measures should be taken after heatstroke, such as maintaining a warm indoor environment and replenishing electrolytes, to alleviate symptoms and prevent complications.
