Disease description:

This morning, my husband came back from the bathroom and quietly told me he noticed a small red spot on his glans penis, asking me what to do and how to treat it. I’m not sure either, so I’d like to learn more about how to treat a small red spot on the glans penis.

Red spots on the glans penis may indicate balanoposthitis—an inflammatory infection often triggered by excessive stress, “internal heat” (a traditional Chinese medicine concept), or poor hygiene. It is recommended that patients gently cleanse the area with clean water and then disinfect it with iodophor to help alleviate symptoms. Alternatively, these spots could be pearly penile papules—a benign, self-limiting condition that typically requires no treatment and resolves spontaneously over time. However, if the patient also has phimosis and experiences recurrent episodes, prompt consultation with a healthcare provider for circumcision is advisable. During treatment, dietary precautions are essential: avoid spicy, cold, or raw foods, and maintain strict genital hygiene.
