ECG for assessing the likelihood of myocardial ischemia
Disease description:
Recently, I took my uncle to the hospital for a checkup. I’d like to know: How accurate is an electrocardiogram (ECG) in detecting myocardial ischemia?
Myocardial ischemia is a condition characterized by inadequate coronary artery blood supply, leading to impaired oxygen and blood delivery to the myocardium. Relying solely on electrocardiography (ECG) to diagnose myocardial ischemia has certain limitations. For acute conditions such as myocardial infarction or acute ischemia, standard ECG demonstrates relatively high diagnostic sensitivity. However, for secondary myocardial ischemia, in addition to ECG, coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) should be performed, and clinical manifestations must be integrated into a comprehensive assessment to determine whether myocardial ischemia is present.
