Causes of Low Hematocrit in Children
Disease description:
Hello, Doctor. I would like to ask about the possible causes of low hematocrit in my child, as identified during a routine physical examination.
Low red blood cell counts in children are primarily associated with the child’s age and the altitude of their residence. Additionally, insufficient intake of iron-rich or blood-nourishing foods in the daily diet may contribute to this condition. However, anemia itself is a medical disorder; if left unaddressed, it can impair growth and development—potentially affecting height, cognitive function, and organ maturation—and may also weaken the immune system, thereby increasing susceptibility to infections.
