Dr. Zhang Hongxia
For gout-related kidney stones, the first step is to drink large amounts of water. Diluting the urine helps slow stone growth and reduces the risk of postoperative stone recurrence. If a urinary tract infection is present, high urine output promotes bacterial clearance and aids in infection control. Patients with persistent acidic urine and gout should undergo regular urinary alkalinization—for example, by taking sodium bicarbonate or potassium-sodium citrate granules. Allopurinol may be used for gout-related kidney stones, as it lowers both serum and urinary uric acid levels, significantly improving uric acid stone formation in gout patients. For certain gout-related kidney stone patients who meet the criteria, laser lithotripsy may be performed.
