I have a friend who was recently diagnosed with uremia and is very worried. Could you please tell me: Is uremia transmissible through food?

Uremia itself is not contagious. However, uremia has many underlying causes. Primary chronic glomerulonephritis, tubulointerstitial nephritis, and renal vascular diseases are non-infectious. In contrast, uremia may also result from infectious diseases such as genitourinary tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and syphilis; patients with uremia secondary to these infections are contagious and require isolation. Additionally, hepatitis B and hepatitis C can lead to hepatitis B– or C–associated nephropathy; such patients are also contagious, primarily via blood exposure and close contact.
