Efficacy, Benefits, and Methods of Consumption of Ku Ding Cha
Disease description:
I’ve recently experienced “internal heat” (a traditional Chinese medicine concept). A friend recommended that I drink Kuding tea. Could you please explain the health benefits, effects, and proper preparation methods of Kuding tea?
Kuding tea possesses heat-clearing, detoxifying, and fire-purging properties, making it effective for treating sore throat, headache caused by excessive internal heat, red and swollen eyes, oral ulcers, halitosis, and constipation. Additionally, kuding tea has the effects of relieving summer-heat and promoting diuresis and dampness elimination; thus, drinking it during summer helps alleviate summer-heat while also promoting water metabolism and reducing edema.
Kuding tea is typically prepared as an infusion. There are two common brewing methods: (1) brewing kuding tea alone—also known as “single-herb infusion”—in which only kuding tea leaves are placed directly into a teapot or cup and steeped with hot water; and (2) blending kuding tea with other teas or herbal ingredients. Suitable companion teas include green tea, oolong tea, Maojian, Longjing, and scented teas. The recommended ratio of kuding tea to other tea is 1:9, with a maximum ratio of no more than 2:8.
